Today I saw "Firaaq" a movie directed and written by Nandita Das... Before I go and describe the characters in few lines.. I must admit this is one of the best movie which I have ever seen.. Every dialogues has some meanings.. u'll find many situation where you will keep searching the answer within oneself... remember the kid mohsin (aka mohan) desperate eyes at the end of the movie...
Well this movie revolves around 4 different people which are not connected to each other but all of them had felt the burn of post godhra riots... and a kid.. an orphan.. running around the city in search for his father...Paresh/Deepti - A gujju family, hindu... who got benefited with riots.. looted some shops.. killed.. raped muslims.. and his traumatized wife Deepti... who keep burning her hand to alleviate the fire and fear which were deep inside her skin... Deepti further turned on by asking question to Paresh's younger brother .. who has enjoyed the gangrape... "do you have some dignity"??
Tisca Chopra/ Sanjay Suri - Musilm boy married to Hindu girl... traumatized by the riot.. planning to leave the state.... Sameer is a character who starts with bit of cowardice act where he hide his sur name.. slowly turns on at the end of the story where he says.. I am sameer al sheikh.. and i know wherever i go .. it will never change and decided to stay back..
Naseer shaab/Raghuvir yadav - Strong act by both characters.. where Naseer shaab as Khan saab an old classic singer.. still belief that harmony is still there.. not aware of the situation that his care taker Raghuvir knew.. but hide all the brutality from Khan saab... which has been later realized by Khaan saab...in his words...
"Inn saat suron me ab takat kahan ki itni nafrat ko rok sake"...
One of the conversation...
Raghuvir: "Hindu Muslim ko kaat rahe hain.... aapko gussa nahi aata hain " ??
Khaan Saab: "Insaan Insaan ko kaat rahe hain.. is baat ka dukh hain.. "
Autorickshaw family - This part of story has shown the true color of tears, pain, loss that a family has faces who just returned to city after riots and found his home all charred... The guy wanted to take revenge and ends in some dramatic situation... Wife who has hindu friend on which she suspected at first and blamed at last.. realized later that it was not her... this shows the fear and suspicion among the neighbor who once lived peacefully...
A Kid - This kid has impressed me a lot.. at first while talking with Deepti.. he described the brutallity which he has encountered when all of his family member got killed... He even asked deepti by looking at her burned hand... "Aapko v jalaya kya" ?? A kid.. who is an orphan.. but still believes his father is alive.. finally ends up in one of the Camp organized for homeless people...
"tu bahar Mohan hain aur kitchen me mohsin"...
Firaaq is an urdu words.. which means separation.. separation between hindu and muslim..
Overall this movie touches me a lot... I would recommend everyone who love the good story and direction.. go n watch... you will come out with many questions... and many answers too...
